After flipping through the replies and arguments reinaa keeps putting forth I think I feel safe saying that her seriousness in becoming involved with the Witnesses is something that I really doubt.
Sure she may go back to meetings, hang around the hall a bit. But at the end of the day she is not serious about being a JW. Such replies as she has consistently given could be provided by a person who is far removed from the realities of being in the Watchtower.
She likes coming on this forum and making light of issues going on within the Watchtower. I don't fault her for this because this is where her own personal experience takes her. I do think she would not do so good in taking these issues on with any of us person to person, the internet make it easy to be aloof on specific positions and get away with it.
I know this makes most of you on this forum angry. You see a person giving the JWs a free pass just because they want to. I've got new for all of you here, there are millions of them. Personal experience has everything to do with how we view the Watchtower. Most of us invested our lives into the JWs, hours and hours of our time. We were extremely dedicated to the message and beliefs. When that reality was exposed as a false one to us we became extremely involved in understanding why it was so wrong and how we had been duped.
I just don't think Reinaa has much invested into her ideas about the Watchtower. They seem trivial to her. She doesn't see these issues the same way most on the board see them.
I mean, calling Crisis of Conscience 'out of date'. She is so not serious about discussing things here. At this point she just wants to annoy you all!
Don't get me wrong. I actually am not really trying to rag on Reinaa. It's just that i think that most here are taking her way to seriously.

Diary of a thinking to return ex-Jw
by reniaa ini thought long and hard about posting this but the mis-information on this site finally persuaded me, i already accept many may not accept what i say on face value and get their appologist pens ready for making sure no pro-witness propaganda slips through the net on this site but here goes....... i've been on this forum for a few months my first post was about how i was thinking of returning to jw's and at my sisters recommendation to look at this site for both sides of the story before taking that step.. i faded from jw's 10/11 years ago now i left my hubby at the time divorced him to going on to have more relationships and kids, i was definately given the impression after asking on this site and with what i read that if i tried to return i might face df or at least a jc but definately a couple of elders questioning me over what i've been upto these last few years - none of these have happened.
i talked with an old jw friend (yes i do have then and she never shunned me quite happily accepted an offer of coffee from me and my asking for a chat) i told her i was interested in going back and was very frank about what i done in the last 10 years but not sure how returning was done now, she quite happily said she go ask for me to find out.. result!
she came back this week and said "all i had to do was goto meetings again" and an offer of a study was there for me if i wanted it to explore the open doubts that i had expressed i now had.. not quite the fire and brimstone welcome this site led me to believe would happen.. i will keep you posted with further updates if i feel the need to put them in future.. .

reniaa, just wanted to point out that I've posted on two of your threads with a number of different points you have never addressed. You are getting lots of comments but I feel that I have raised a number of important things which you have either missed or ignored.
As I have pointed out I believe that 'true theology' has very little to do with wether it is 'the truth' or not. The Watchtower has a divine story. You cannot validate this story just by saying 'we have the right teachings'. It is a bogus argument. To focus to heavily on the teachings not central to the Watchtowers idea that it is at the center of end time prophecy is missing the point. -

I liked how this poster talked about learning the value of real volunteer work:

I would also like to say that the candor and goodwill of those who have made these is wonderful. While some other videos on youtube have taken a negative stance, on the whole these are very positive and i really like that.

JW religion is not all that bad really
by veen ini know we all have issues with the borg, but really i think there are far more despicable religions on the go, namely american style evangelical christianity.
i'm watching a film called 'jesus camp' as i type and all i can say is any of you idiots who post on here who say you left the jw's and have now found jesus are totally retarded.
you really need to get a grip on reality and stop needing religion as a crutch.

I understand that there is a need for balance when discussing JWs but you threw your credibility out the window when you defined an entire religious movement by things you saw in a movie.

I Do Not Understand Why JWs Leave & Become Catholics!
by minimus inout of all religions, catholicism, to me, is wrong and clearly could never be the truth.
-
drew sagan
As far as Catholics go, I do have to say that the writings of Thomas Merton, who became a Trappist monk, have been very important to me. I've been fascinated by the idea of monks, regardless of the religion. Sort of strange for a horndog like me!
I feel exactly the same way.
The Watchtower and Catholic are two very different animals. You can point out doctrinal similarities in authority structure and problems with leadership but I think at the end of the day you are dealing with two very different things.
I like to say that JWs are protestants on steroids. Deep down JWs hold a number of protestant ideas and so the transformation over to that belief system appears to be more natural. Many who leave the JWs move into protestantism because that form of theology suits them and their personal experience. I found myself leaning very protestant when I left the JWs and I know many here have felt that way as well. Over time though protestantism has its many flaws and some are not content with it (like me). Ex-JWs turning Catholic really isn't all that surprising to me and I can personally relate to their experience. -

An excellent book you need to read on Apocalyptic Belief
by drew sagan ini have recommended this book in a number of other thread but have never taken the time to start my own thread for this book.. .
the book is titled war in heaven, heaven on earth (theories of the apocalyptic).
it is a collection of essays by a number of prominent scholars which analyze millennialism and apocalyptic belief form a number of different contexts.. .

hillary_step, just thought you would find it interesting to note that the publisher of this book actually has promoted it as somewhat of a sequel to that work. They say in part:
Not since Norman Cohn's The Pursuit of the Millennium has there been such a profound theoretical exploration of millennial themes, coupled for the first time with a strong comparative dimension.
